Oscar De La Hoya Vs. Manny Pacquiao Preview - HBO 24/7

Saturday's Picks

This will be updated throughout the day as always.

Boston College -1 This team is truly a team in every sense of the word. They get along very well and will play hard for one another. They might not be the most talented team in the country but they will give it their best effort each and every Saturday. Their run D is incredible and they will stuff the backfield of the Hokies all day long. The Eagles offense will score enough for the team to win. Look for at least two interceptions from QB Tyrod Taylor too.

Florida/Alabama Over 54.5  This game will go over the posted total as Alabama has a good offense and so does Florida. Alabama has a solid running game and a veteran QB.  Alabama has a good defense but they have never seen an offense as good as Florida's. Special teams will play a role as well on the fast turf in the Georgia Dome.

Friday's Picks Of The Day

Golden State/Houston over 208.5 - This game will go well over the posted total. The Warriors don't play any D and they can score.

USC Player Punches Blake Griffin In The Balls

I am going to try this at the gym the next time some punk fouls me hard. Blake Griffin is a future NBA player and one of the best players from Oklahoma. This happened last night.

How To Annoy People At The Gym

I don't do any of these things at the gym.

Former Raider Jarrod Cooper To Blast Al Davis on NFL Network Tonight

D Wizzle's World has just found out that former Raider Jarrod Cooper will be on the NFL Network after the game to blast Al Davis right after the Chargers vs. Raiders game tonight.

A source who is a Raiders insider just  told D Wizzle's World that Cooper will be very critical of the Raiders owner and won't pull any punches.

Thursday PIcks of the Day

Check back frequently for more picks throughout the day. 4-2 last night and 8-6 YTD.

Valparaiso +1.5  - This team will bounce back after their loss at Cleveland State a few days ago.

Saint Mary's -1 -  This is a revenge game after Kent beat the Gaels at home last year. The Gaels will be scoring all night with their strong frontcourt led by Omar Samhan.

UT Martin -2 - Lester Hudson and Marquis Weddle will have big games tonight. Sure, they lost by 27 to USC but  Morehead State is not USC!

Cleveland State -3 -  Butler lost a lot of good players to graduation and although they still have a lot of talent, Cleveland State will make a big statement tonight and show the world that they are the big dogs of the Horizon League now.

Wednesday Picks Of The Day

4-1 yesterday as the only loss was the Bulls/76ers game over 194.5.

Overall Record is now 4-4. Looking to go over the .500 mark tonight!

Tulane -2   - They will beat New Orleans tonight. Tulane has more scoring power and depth than New Orleans. Look for  PG Kevin Sims to have a big game for the Green Wave. New Orleans has Kyndall Dykes back from injury but their offense is terrible and it will be their demise tonight.

Oklahoma CIty Thunder +8.5 -  They might win this game outright against the Bobcats.  The Thunder have a lot of scoring options but don't play great defense. Charlotte is still adjusting to Coach Larry Brown and they are a rare favorite in tonight's game.  Charlotte should not be a big favorite against any team and they will not cover the spread tonight. I expect Kevin Durant and Jeff Green and company to play well.

Milwaukee Bucks -4 -   They will win easy over a tired Bulls team who played in overtime last night and loss to the 76ers.  Although the trip to Milwaukee from Chicago is not far, this is still a tough road game for the visiting Bulls. The Bucks have had a few days off after their loss to the Cavs last Saturday night and will be ready to go tonight. Michael Redd is back  from an ankle injury and he will be helping out with the scoring.

Rhode Island -2  - Jimmy Barron can shoot the 3 better than anyone in college basketball. Rhode Island played the Duke Blue Devils tough at Duke and Northeastern is nothing like Duke. Northeastern won't have the scoring power to offset the Rams tonight.

Santa Clara  -2   - Santa Clara wins it tonight with defense. They will win with their big center, John Bryant, contributing on offense with points and offensive rebounds. Bryant lost a lot of weight in the offseason and he is a load in the paint.  Santa Clara played Arizona and Georgia tough this season already.

Tulsa +1.5   -  This team will win on the road against Ohio. They just have the better players. Not as confident in this pick as the others, but this is still a good play in my opinion.

NBA Tuesday Recap and Notes

The Lakers lost their second game of the year to the Pacers 118-117. I feel sorry for the Sixers because they have to face an angry and motivated Lakers team on Wednesday night.

Portland is one of the best teams in the NBA right now. They have a go-to guy in Brandon Roy and a lot of depth.

The Nets lost big to the Wizards tonight but they were coming off a road trip.

The Bulls were coming off a long trip too and lost tonight to the Sixers in overtime.  It is never easy to win the first game at home after a long road trip.

When the Pistons are motivated, they are a very dangerous team. Good road win tonight against the Spurs.

Tuesday's PIcks Of The Day

0-3 Record but we will bounce back tonight and get our first W of the year!

Clippers +11  This team actually showed some heart in their win against the Heat and will play well tonight and make it a game against the Mavs. I think they can win tonight too and get the outright W. They showed a lot of offensive cohesion last Saturday against the Heat and Zack Randolph is going to help out the offense.

76ers +2  The Bulls are coming off a long road trip and this is their first game back at home. The 76ers have lost four in a row but will play good defense tonight and Brand will have  a good game. The 76ers play the Lakers the following night so you know they will try their best to get a win tonight.  The Bulls beat the 76ers on Sunday and this is a revenge game as well. It is never easy for a team to win back to back games against an opponent. Andre Miller got embarrassed on Sunday and he will make it tougher on Derrick Rose tonight. Miller is a prideful veteran and he won't let a rookie embarrass  him again.

76ers/Bulls Under 194.5    76ers can't score much and the Bulls will be tired from their long road trip. This will be an easy under.  I see a defensive battle tonight.

Pistons +5    Iverson and friends will show up tonight in San Antonio. The Pistons may have laid an egg on Sunday against Portland, but they get up for teams like the Spurs. They will play much better tonight due to the step up in competition.  They play down to weaker opponents but always get up for  the top teams in the league.

Duke +2    Duke an underdog against a Big 10 school? Give me Duke! Duke won't be intimidated at all by the crowd and they have too much depth for Purdue. Kyle Singer will play better than Robbie Hummel and show the NBA that he is ready to go pro. Hummel is good but he is not as good as Singer.  Duke will outmuscle and outrebound  Purdue all game and I see a blowout. The ACC is better than the Big 10 and Duke is the second best team in the ACC.

NBA News and Notes for 12/1/08

The Pistons lost again on Sunday. They have not won on a Sunday this season. Just like most people, the Pistons like to take Sundays off.

Do I have to talk about Nets guard Devin Harris every single day? Harris had 47 points last night against the Suns. Did anyone expect Steve Nash to stop him if Deron Williams could not on Saturday?

The Nets beat the Suns last night 117-109 and avenged their 28 point defeat to the Suns a few weeks ago.

One of the biggest disappointments this season has to be the Sixers. They were supposed to be contenders after they obtained Elton Brand but so far, they have been mediocre with a 7-10 record.

I didn't know Stephon Marbury was such a funny dude. His quotes concerning his predicament with the Knicks  are classic.  Among other things he said to the media, he said he could not trust Mike D"Antoni with walking his dog across the street.

There are only three games on the schedule tonight. The best game to watch will be the Heat vs. the Warriors.

Look for D-Wade to have a great game and many highlight-reel dunks against the pathetic Warriors. Who is going to stop Michael Beasley? Corey Maggete? I don't think so.

NFL News and Notes For 12/1/08

Plaxico Burress might face jail time if he is found guilty. ESPN reported the minimum sentence if he is charged would be two years. Does the NYPD have anything else to do besides investigating this case? Enough already.  I don't have a problem with high-profile stars like Burress carrying a gun to protect himself against haters.  He is not a criminal  but he is handcuffed on television.  I hate seeing black athletes get in trouble with the law like this and how the media makes Burress out to be such a bad guy.  If Buress is let go by the Giants, there will be many teams ready to sign him.

My pick right now for the Super Bowl would be the Giants and the Steelers. They are the two best teams in the NFL in my opinion.

Interim Raider coach Tom Cable is just a terrible head coach. I doubt he will be back next season. Cable decided to  go for a fake field goal on 4th and 10 in the first half of the game against the Chiefs.  The trick play did not work as a Chiefs player, Maurice Leggett, grabbed the fumble from kicker Sebastian Janikowski, and ran 64 yards the other way for a touchdown to make it 10-3.

Later in the first half, Cable decided to have his offense go for it on 4th and 3 when they should have kicked a FG to cut the Chiefs' lead to 10-6. Instead,  Jamarcus Russell throws an incompletion into the end zone, and the Raiders once again come up with zero points.

The local media is saying that Cable cost them the game because of his bonehead move on the 4th and  10 play, but that is not necessarily the case. The Raiders tied the game up at 10 in the second half, and had countless chances to win the game, but their offense is just too pathetic to drive down the field.

Jamarcus Russell is the worst starting quarterback in the league. He was 10-28 and very inaccurate with his throws. I hope this guy improves because right now, he is looking like a bust.

I was not too surprised by the Jets loss to the Broncos because the Jets  were due to suffer a letdown after their big win on the road the week before against the Titans. It is hard to get up for all 16 games, and this was the letdown game for the Jets. They play in San Francisco next week against the 49ers.

The 49ers became the first West Coast team to win a morning game in the East Coast when they went to Buffalo and defeated the Bills 10-3. If the 49ers keep winning and playing hard, it might be difficult for the 49ers to not give the head coach job to interim coach Mike Singletary.

If Mike Martz leaves next year as offensive coordinator for the 49ers, maybe Norv Turner could return to the team as their offensive coordinator. Turner should be fired as head coach of the Chargers after this season. He is a great offensive mind, but a terrible head coach who has never had any success as the main man. He has made many terrible  in-game decisions as coach of the Chargers.

Romeo Crennel of the Browns will probably be let go after this season too. I wonder if the Bengels will fire Marvin Lewis.

The two top candidates for Coach of the Year are Tony Sparano of Miami and Mike Smith of Atlanta.

There will be a lot of job openings in the NFL after this season is over for head coaches. There should be no way that Rod Marinelli keeps his job as Lions head coach. The Lions have a good shot at going 0-16. Their last four games are against Minnesota, at Indy, New Orleans, and at Green Bay.

I think someone should give Texas Tech coach Mike Leach a chance to be an offensive coordinator in this league.

The team with the best chance  to dethrone the Giants in the NFC is the Dallas Cowboys.

Hottie Mollie Rose With The U

D Wizzle's NFL Afternoon Pick

Raiders/Chiefs Over 41 - This game will be very high-scoring as both teams have average to bad defenses.

This game should be over the posted total by the 3rd quarter.   The record stands  0-2 but hopefully this game gets us back on track.

UFC Fighter Anthony "Rumble" Johnson Interview

Here are videos of Rumble discussing his rematch against Kevin Burns which will happen in a few weeks. This interview is in 3 parts.

D Wizzle's NFL Pick Of The Day

The pick last night in the NBA lost so the record is 0-1 but it is time to bounce back this morning and get the first win.

The play  is  49ers/Bills Over 43.  This game will be high-scoring and even though the weather is cold, there will be points scored on both sides.

You just don't hold a Mike Martz offense down for the whole game and the Bills gave up 31 points to the lowly Chiefs last week, and scored 54 themselves.

Wind is the biggest factor in affecting passing games of teams and the wind won't be a huge factor tonight. Bank on a few turnovers today which will help field position for both teams.

NBA News and Notes For 11/29/08

I said in yesterday's News and Notes that the Warriors are the worst defensive team in the NBA. They proved me right when they gave up 138 points to the Knicks tonight, and lost 138-125. I think the guys at  my local YMCA play better defense than any of the Warriors.

The Warriors gave up 37 points and 21 boards tonight to David Lee. I don't think Lee will ever have as great a night as he had tonight in his career.

Anthony Morrow has come back to earth for the Warriors. After scoring 37 and 25 points in his first two games as a starter, he has shot poorly since then.

Baron Davis is the biggest free agent disappointment so far. He has played very poorly, and his teammates are not helping him either. The Clippers offense is very stagnant and Davis is shooting a very poor percentage. His decision-making has been terrible as well. He often just jacks up jumpers  and three-pointers that don't fall, and he made a bad decision  passing the ball to Marcus Camby in the final seconds of a game this week against the Nuggets. Camby had an open 3 which didn't fall and the Nuggets won by one point.

Davis' defense is also very poor this season.

I don't think Eddie Jordan should have been fired, but Mike Dunleavy should definitely have been fired a long time ago. The Clippers are 2-13.

P.J. Carlisimo should never have been hired as coach  of the Sonics. Scottie Brooks is a young coach and I think he will do a better job with the youngsters the Thunder have than Carlisimo.

One of my favorite players to watch play is Devin Haris of the Nets. His play this season will make the Mavs wonder why they traded him for the aging Jason Kidd. Harris is a defensive nightmare for all the point guards in the NBA because he is one of the fastest players in the league.  He had 34 points tonight against the Jazz. He loves  to do spin moves to get free for a jumper.

The Nets have a lot of good young players on their roster who will only improve as the season goes along. Players such as Brook Lopez, Ryan Anderson, and Yi Jianlian give hope to all the fans in New Jersey.

The Thunder had a big win tonight on the road against another young team in the Memphis Grizzlies. Jeff Green hit some key 3s to help them win.

Can you believe the Timberwolves traded O.J. Mayo for Kevin Love? Love will never be a superstar or sell tickets. Mayo is already beginning to assert himself as a good scorer in the league, and a future star. Love won't be as good as his ex UCLA teammates, Russsell Westbrook and Luc Richard Mbah A Moute.

Westbrook is playing well with the Thunder and Mbah A Moute is playing good defense and even scoring points for the Bucks.

The reason the Timberwolves won't be good this year is because their backcourt is too inconsistent. You just don't know what you will be getting each night from guards Randy Foye and Sebastian Telfair.

The Cavs are a very quiet 14-3. Everyone talks about the Pistons and the Celtics, but the Cavs just keep on winning without much fanfare.

The Hawks should be getting forward Josh Smith back soon. I can't wait to see him return to this team. I like watching Smith play because of his tremendous athleticism which makes him able to make a lot of highlight-reel dunks and monster blocks.

D Wizzle's NBA PIck Of The Day

D Wizzle's World will be giving  picks daily starting tonight with the Heat/Clippers game in the NBA.

Take the Heat -2 against the Clippers. Baron Davis has  a stomach virus and won't be 100%. Dwyane Wade will get his buckets and Eric Gordon won't be able to stop him. The Clippers are 2-13 and are one of the worst teams in the NBA.

NBA News and Notes For 11/28/08

The technical foul called last night by the ref on Kenyon Martin was terrible. Peja hit a 3 for the Hornets to break a tie near the end of the fourth quarter, and Denver coach George Karl called a timeout.  Martin kicked the courtside table with his foot and the ref gave him a T. You just don't do that in a close game in the final quarter of a game. Martin was frustrated but took his frustration out on the table and not the ref, and should not have been given a T. This gave the Hornets a four point lead after Peja made the technical free throw.

The Warriors are the worst defensive team in the NBA. Unfortunately, they don't have Monta Ellis and Baron Davis to help them outscore teams. Ellis should be back in a few months after suffering an injury to his ankle after a moped accident over the summer.

Roger Mason has played great for the Spurs so far. Tony Parker returned tonight and now the Spurs will be lethal with both Parker and Manu Ginobili back. George Hill has been playing well in place of Parker and now he can come off the bench.

The Lakers are the best team in the NBA right now. They have great offense and play great defense too. Trevor Ariza is playing like he wants to win the Most Improved Player award. He has been playing well on defense but also is providing offense, and his jumper has improved immensely.  The Orlando Magic probably regret trading Ariza for Maurice Evans now. Evans is now with the Hawks.

Jason Richardson made his return from injury tonight and had 21 points to help the Bobcats get a rare road win over the Pacers. D.J. Augustin has played well since he moved to the starting lineup.

Who cares what Charles Barkley has to say about LeBron James? The media is just making a big deal out of nothing once again. Barkley said that James should  not be talking about his free agency plans. James will be a free agent in 2010. James got mad and called Barkley "stupid."

The Knicks should release Stephon Marbury or buy him out. Quinton Richardson should not have dissed Marbury through the media. It is the Knicks' fault and not Marbury's at all. Marbury doesn't have a problem with his teammates, but the organization and Richardson should know better than to bash Marbury who is being disrespected by Mike D'Antoni and Donnie Walsh.

The Timberwolves barely beat the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight. Minnesota was up 99-94 in the fourth quarter when they double-teamed Chris Wilcox and Wilcox passed it to Jeff Green for an open 3. In the next Thunder possession, the Timberwolves doubled Wilcox again, and Wilcox passsed to Kevin Durant for another open and uncontested 3.  The two three-pointers were made and the Thunder led 100-99.  This is bad defense and coaching by Randy Wittman. He should be telling his players not to double Wilcox at that time because a three-pointer will hurt you more than a two-point shot made by Wilcox.

The Thunder might be 1-16 but they have a lot of good young players for the future. Players like Durant, Green, and Russell Westbrook, are the future of this team. and they can continue to grow together and improve. Wins are not important right now.  Just don't expect a big superstar free agent to sign with the  Thunder if they have other options. Who wants to play in Oklahoma?

The Wizards should not have fired Eddie Jordan. It is not his fault the team was bad. They did not have Gilbert Arenas, and they also don't have their center, Brendan Haywood, either due to injuries.

Renato "Babalu" Post-Fight Strikeforce Press Conference

Kim Couture Post-Fight Presser After Her Win

Scott Smith Post-Fight Press Conference After His KO Win

Strikeforce Crowns A New Champion At "Destruction"

Strikeforce had their last show of the year  which was aptly titled "Destruction" on Friday night at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

The night was filled with exciting action and quick knockouts.

In front of 8,152 raucous fans, Renato "Babalu" Sobral defeated Bobby Southworth to win the Strikeforce World Light Heavyweight Title. Sobral won by TKO due to a cut suffered by Southworth  after a vicious elbow by Sobral near the end of the first round.

Southworth was able to finish the first round, but the ring side doctor called for the fight to end after checking out the damage to Southworth's right eye in between rounds.

The crowd was in disbelief at the sudden ending of the championship fight which was scheduled for five rounds. The fans booed  Sobral after the win and during his in-ring interview. They were probably booing him because Southworth is the local favorite who trains out of San Jose at the American Kickboxing Academy.

Although Sobral was the heavy favorite to beat Southworth, no one expected this kind of ending. Many expected Sobral to use his jiu-jitsu skills to beat Southworth.

Southworth has not endeared himself to fans due to his last few fights being very boring, but he showed a lot of ability and skill tonight. He controlled Sobral for most of the first round and had Sobral on his back.

Unfortunately, the fight was cut short, but Southworth definitely deserves a chance to get his title back, and a rematch should be in order.

In the post-fight press conference, Sobral was asked if he would like to fight Tito Ortiz, and he said he would definitely welcome a fight with the Huntington Beach Bad Boy. For that fight to happen, Ortiz would have to be healthy as he is still recovering from back surgery, and he would have to sign with Strikeforce.

In the co-main event of the night, Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith knocked out Terry Martin in 24 seconds. Martin was aggresive in the beginning and pressed the action, and Smith countered with a devastating right hand which dropped Martin to the mat immediately and ended the fight.

Everyone expected a stand-up war and the fans got what they came to see. After the fight, Smith said he would like to continue fighting for Strikeforce, and that he is open to fights with Frank Shamrock or Cung Le.

A fight between Smith and either of these opponents would be very entertaining. Smith is a dangerous striker and would be a threat to both Shamrock and Le.

In another exciting fight, Kim Couture destroyed Lina Kvokov, and won by TKO in the first round. The fans were really into this fight as Couture dominated her opponent with vicious knees and punches. The female matches on Strikeforce shows always brings the crowd to its feet and on this night, it was no exception.

This fight was one-sided and short but the fans were extremely loud and appreciative of Couture's efforts. Fans loved the aggressiveness of Couture and women's MMA in general.

Hopefully Strikeforce can have more than one women's fight in their future shows. A lot of fans are hoping they can sign the face of women's MMA, Gina Carano, and have her fight for the organization once again. Carano was on hand to cheer on her friend, Couture, much to the delight of the many  fans who snapped pictures of her.

In other fights on the main card, Joe Riggs got back on the winning trail by defeating  Luke Stewart by TKO due to strikes in the second round, and Duane "Bang" Ludwig beat Yves Edwards by unanimous decision after three uninspiring rounds.

It was a very controversial decision by the judges as many fans felt Edwards would be declared the winner. The fight did not have as much action as expected but Edwards clearly did enough to earn a win.

Edwards was supposed to challenge for the Strikeforce Lightweight Title currently held by Josh "The Punk" Thomson, but Thomson was forced to pull out of the fight due to a broken toe suffered while training.

Overall, the fights were very entertaining and the fans left the arena happy and satisfied because they got to see many thrilling knockouts and entertaining fights.

Strikeforce always puts on great cards and once again, they delivered.
