Strikeforce Crowns A New Champion At "Destruction"
Strikeforce had their last show of the year which was aptly titled "Destruction" on Friday night at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.
The night was filled with exciting action and quick knockouts.
In front of 8,152 raucous fans, Renato "Babalu" Sobral defeated Bobby Southworth to win the Strikeforce World Light Heavyweight Title. Sobral won by TKO due to a cut suffered by Southworth after a vicious elbow by Sobral near the end of the first round.
Southworth was able to finish the first round, but the ring side doctor called for the fight to end after checking out the damage to Southworth's right eye in between rounds.
The crowd was in disbelief at the sudden ending of the championship fight which was scheduled for five rounds. The fans booed Sobral after the win and during his in-ring interview. They were probably booing him because Southworth is the local favorite who trains out of San Jose at the American Kickboxing Academy.
Although Sobral was the heavy favorite to beat Southworth, no one expected this kind of ending. Many expected Sobral to use his jiu-jitsu skills to beat Southworth.
Southworth has not endeared himself to fans due to his last few fights being very boring, but he showed a lot of ability and skill tonight. He controlled Sobral for most of the first round and had Sobral on his back.
Unfortunately, the fight was cut short, but Southworth definitely deserves a chance to get his title back, and a rematch should be in order.
In the post-fight press conference, Sobral was asked if he would like to fight Tito Ortiz, and he said he would definitely welcome a fight with the Huntington Beach Bad Boy. For that fight to happen, Ortiz would have to be healthy as he is still recovering from back surgery, and he would have to sign with Strikeforce.
In the co-main event of the night, Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith knocked out Terry Martin in 24 seconds. Martin was aggresive in the beginning and pressed the action, and Smith countered with a devastating right hand which dropped Martin to the mat immediately and ended the fight.
Everyone expected a stand-up war and the fans got what they came to see. After the fight, Smith said he would like to continue fighting for Strikeforce, and that he is open to fights with Frank Shamrock or Cung Le.
A fight between Smith and either of these opponents would be very entertaining. Smith is a dangerous striker and would be a threat to both Shamrock and Le.
In another exciting fight, Kim Couture destroyed Lina Kvokov, and won by TKO in the first round. The fans were really into this fight as Couture dominated her opponent with vicious knees and punches. The female matches on Strikeforce shows always brings the crowd to its feet and on this night, it was no exception.
This fight was one-sided and short but the fans were extremely loud and appreciative of Couture's efforts. Fans loved the aggressiveness of Couture and women's MMA in general.
Hopefully Strikeforce can have more than one women's fight in their future shows. A lot of fans are hoping they can sign the face of women's MMA, Gina Carano, and have her fight for the organization once again. Carano was on hand to cheer on her friend, Couture, much to the delight of the many fans who snapped pictures of her.
In other fights on the main card, Joe Riggs got back on the winning trail by defeating Luke Stewart by TKO due to strikes in the second round, and Duane "Bang" Ludwig beat Yves Edwards by unanimous decision after three uninspiring rounds.
It was a very controversial decision by the judges as many fans felt Edwards would be declared the winner. The fight did not have as much action as expected but Edwards clearly did enough to earn a win.
Edwards was supposed to challenge for the Strikeforce Lightweight Title currently held by Josh "The Punk" Thomson, but Thomson was forced to pull out of the fight due to a broken toe suffered while training.
Overall, the fights were very entertaining and the fans left the arena happy and satisfied because they got to see many thrilling knockouts and entertaining fights.
Strikeforce always puts on great cards and once again, they delivered.

Hottie of the Week: Bri
D Wizzle is back with a new Hottie of the Week (HOW) and her name is Bri and she is from Sacramento, California. Bri is 24 and is a model and personal trainer. She is a huge sports fan. Check out what she has to say about UFC fighters, the Dodgers, Lakers and other topics.
I have really nice defined, toned legs and I don't even have to do anything. I think it was a result of so many years of softball and dance so they just stay looking good. (laughs) My butt also gets quite a bit of attention as well. For being a white girl, I have always been a little hippy and had a nice ass.
I like a guy that is sexy, confident, and funny, I guess you could say I have always gone for the pretty boy look or at least well groomed. I like a man to be in good shape. I think that it is important because I like to work out and like a man I can work out with. I am a sucker for pretty eyes like long lashes or pretty eye color, and nice full lips. If you can make me laugh, that's always a good ticket to my heart as well. Most importantly, he has to be able to carry on an intelligent and intellectual conversation. If that one quality doesn't exist, I don't even bother. One thing that I can not stand is a hot guy that opens his mouth and sounds like an idiot. Someone who is overly confident, and cocky is a real turn off too. But other than that, if you have looks and personality, you might just have the key!
My favorite MMA fighter is Georges St. Pierre. He has come a long way. He is so humble and you can see his passion for the sport. He has so much respect for the sport and everyone in it. I love the way he fights. He deserves the title and even when he lost it, he worked so hard and went above and beyond to get it back and continues to defend his title. I like his training style and I think that he is in really good shape and it shows.
I think my number one favorite car right now has to be the Audi R8. The design is so sick. A few other things that I really love about it is the all wheel drive that Audi is known for. Not only that it produces 420 HP with a V8 FSI engine... FSI with direct petrol injection technology. It also has an aluminum body which gives outstanding dynamics for driving.
My second favorite car is the Lamborghini Gallardo. It used to be my first favorite but it has moved down a spot. This car is just sexy! Once again the aerodynamics of this car really sets it aside from anything else.
Third has to be the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55. This I see more as a chick car but it has some really good specs. One of my favorite things about this car is the fact that it is rear wheel drive. This car offers 360 HP and 376 lb of torque. Fast, fun, and sporty ... all the things I love. A few others I like but don't make the top 3 list are the Aston Martin DBS, the BMW M3, the Bugatti Veyron, and the Ferrari California.
Lesnar vs. Couture is going to be a really good fight. I think that Brock may take it. I want Couture to prove me wrong though. I would really like to see Couture take it. Couture has great takedown abilities due to his wrestling background. I don't like Brock because I think he is cocky and I don't like that. I do have to say that for his size, he is really quick and is really going to create a challenge for Randy. Another good advantage that Randy does have his ability to create a plan when he is fighting. Like I said, I think it will be a good and interesting fight.
I think that Rampage is going to beat Silva. I really don't have an opinion about either but I know that they have both fought some people of the same experience and aptitude but I just think that Rampage has a little more confidence in his fighting abilities. Now between Griffin and Evans, this is a hard one. I kind of think that Evans is gonna take this one. I think that he is a little bit more aggressive. I am not sure but I think that I would kind of like to see him win against Griffin.
It would be awesome to be a MMA ring girl. I would love to do that if I were given the opportunity. I love the sport and what better way to promote it, and support it! Not to mention I'd have the best seats in the house! I think that would be so much fun.
I love skirts and short shorts, and tank tops and of course going to the lake in a cute bikini.
I really hope Manny Ramirez stays with the Dodgers. It truly will be in their best interest. I would hate to see him go to the Yankees or to the Giants. As a true Dodgers fan, I have my fingers crossed. I wouldn't be a true Dodgers fan if I didn't say that I hate the Giants. Growing up in Sacramento, we went to to San Francisco many times to watch them play. My dad always took me and I always would show my Dodgers Pride and my dad used to say, "You better stop because you're gonna get me in a fight." Luckily that never happened but I never stopped cheering for the Dodgers even in Giants territory. So yes, I would definitely say that the rivalry exists on both sides.
The Lakers are doing great and going in the right direction. I thought I heard a comment by Shaq saying that Kobe couldn't do it without him or something like that. Kobe, in my eyes, is the closest thing out there to the next Jordan. I know that they deserve it and I hope they continue on a great victory path to the end.
Politics is a heated topic for some, but not me. I am proud of my vote and who I voted for. Obama got my vote this year. The biggest reason why is our country is in desperate need of a change. Obama is that refreshing change that we have been looking for. I know that he will do a great job in providing a new outlook for our country. McCain honestly just made me have bad thoughts of another Bush and we are sick of that.
I really just wanted to thank you for making me a part of this. It has been a pleasure and I feel really honored. I also want to tell the fans and readers of this blog to say thanks to you. You do such a great job and without you, this wouldn't be possible, and I think that it is great that you take the time to put this all together. So thank you and Go Dodgers, Go Lakers, and GSP!!

D Wizzle's World Exclusive: Josh Thomson Is Out With Broken Toe
NFL News, Notes, and Thoughts
Where are all those "experts" on ESPN and other media outlets that proclaimed Dick Jauron to be a Coach of the Year candidate? The Bills have fallen back to earth and have lost three straight games after beating San Diego at home. The win against the Chargers doesn't look that impressive now since the Chargers are struggling. None of their wins have been against teams with a winning record.
Atlanta's win against the Saints was impressive. The Falcons might just run all over Denver next week.
The Colts had a great win in Pittsburgh. Their remaining schedule doesn't seem so tough. Some of their remaining opponents include Houston, Cincinnati, Detroit, and Cleveland.
The Chiefs played well in their 20-19 loss to the Chargers but Herm Edwards made a terrible decision in going for two at the end of the fourth quarter. The difference between his decision to go for two and Mike Shanahan's decision against the Chargers earlier this season was that the Broncos were at home and had a veteran quarterback. Taylor Thigpen is young and inexperienced and was never in that kind of situation before. The chances of him converting the two-point conversion play yesterday was not that good. Why not go into overtime and see what happens? Huge mistake by Edwards but it doesn't matter in the standings since the Chiefs won't make the playoffs anyways. It is not easy though for the players in the Chiefs' locker room to lose like that.
I still like Tony Sparano to be Coach of the Year. He gets my vote. The Dolphins are now 5-4 with their win against the Seahawks. Sparano is a coach that likes to gamble on 4th down and let his offense stay on the field. Players love a coach like that.
The Jets vs. Patriots game on Thursday night will be fun to watch.
The Raiders are just pathetic. Their offense can't score points and they have no quality quarterbacks. They should not have drafted Darren McFadden in the first round since they had Justin Fargas and Michael Bush already in the backfield. Glenn Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis would have added depth to their defense. Instead of drafting JaMarcus Russell in the 2007 draft, they should have selected offensive tackle Joe Thomas instead. He would have protected Raider quarterbacks for many seasons.
I am still not sold on the Arizona Cardinals at all. Let's see how they do tonight against the 49ers. I would not be surprised if it is a closer game than most expect.
The Vikings victory over the Packer was very much needed because their next two games are on the road against Tampa Bay and Jacksonville.
The Giants proved they are the class of the NFC by defeating the Eagles on the road. The Eagles made a terrible call by running on 3rd and 4th down on their final drive last night. Marty Mornhingweg should get a lot of heat if he was the one who made those calls. Mornhingweg is the offensive coordinator for the Eagles. The Eagles are a passing team and not a rushing team and their runs played right into the hands of the Giants defense. The two bonehead calls cost the Eagles a chance at a victory.

D Wizzle's College Football Recap and Report
Fans in Illinois might be calling for Ron Zook's head as the Fighting Illini lost today to Western Michigan 23-17. Juice Williams threw more interceptions and the defense was unable to make stops when needed.
No one expected Michigan to dominate Minnesota and beat them 29-6. What a great win for Rich Rodriguez and his team. Minnesota probably were still not over their last second defeat last week against Northwestern. Tim Brewster might be a good motivator but he made very bad coaching decisions last week against Northwestern that cost his team the game.
The top 3 teams in the country are Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech.
Matthew Stafford's touchdown pass on 3rd and 11 propelled the Georgia Bulldogs to a 42-38 win at Kentucky. Stafford had to scramble until he found a receiver in the back of the end zone. It was a great play by a future first round draft pick in the NFL.
Tennessee was upset by Wyoming 13-7. A very bad loss for Philip Fulmer. Players past and present were upset by Fulmer being run off after this year. Fans are not as upset and wanted him gone for a long time.
It was a big win for Nebraska against Kansas in Lincoln. Nebraska won 45-35 and got revenge from last year's beatdown. Kansas scored 76 points against Nebraska last year.
Oklahoma continues to dominate opponents and scored 66 today against Texas A&M.
Alabama beat LSU 27-21 in overtime. I think Florida will beat Alabama in the SEC championship game.
Stanford needs one more win to be bowl eligible but they lost today to Oregon. Oregon was down 27-28 but they scored with under a minute left in the game to win. This is the second time this season that Stanford's defense has cost their team a victory by letting an opponent score a touchdown with under a minute left in the fourth quarter.
Ohio is having a bad season. They lost 28-3 at home to Bowling Green today. Ohio has had a lot of season-ending injuries to key players.

TCU Vs. Utah Recap
They had the better team but Utah QB Brian Johnson's nine-yard TD pass to WR Freddie Brown with under a minute left in the game decided the game.
TCU could have sealed a victory but their kicker missed two short field goals in the fourth quarter.
TCU also was in position for a field goal many times in the game but their QB, Andy Dalton, got sacked on 3rd down which took them out of field goal position.
Utah had no running game the whole game but their senior QB johnson saved the day for them at the end.

D Wizzle's World Congratulates Barack Obama
Tuesday, November 4, 2008
NFL News and Notes
The AFC West could be decided in the final regular season game between the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos. Denver currently is 4-4 and the Chargers are 3-5.
What is the big fuss over 49ers coach Mike Singletary’s halftime stunt where he took his pants off? The media made a big deal out of nothing once again. Coaches have different ways of motivating their players. If Singletary was white, would this be such a big deal? I wouldn’t put it pass the media to try to show Singletary as another angry black man.
The Charger made a great choice in promoting Ron Rivera to DC and firing Ted Cottrell. The Chargers D was just horrible under Cottrell. Part of the reason was the loss of Shawn Merriman but the Chargers defense appeared too passive under Cottrell. Teams were just passing all day on the Chargers D. QBs like Trent Edwards and Drew Brees were having their way too often with the secondary of the Chargers.
The so called “experts” were once again wrong as the Steelers defeated the Redskins last night. Everyone was picking the Redskins and ESPN’s Ron Jaworski was even touting Jason Campbell as a MVP candidate. The reason the Steelers won was because they CAN stop the run and held Clinton Portis to under 100 yards. Stop Portis and you can stop the Redskins. Portis was more of a MVP candidate to me than Campbell was.
The Raiders are pathetic. Truly pathetic. They need a coach the players respect and will play hard for. None of the players are scared of Tom Cable and they know he has no power. Cable looks to be way in over his head at this point but the jury is still out on him.
JaMarcus Russell is the worst starting QB in the NFL right now. Matt Ryan of the Falcons clearly outplayed him last Sunday in Oakland. Rusell was only 6-19 for 31 yards.
An AFC championship game between the Steelers and Titans would be a great defensive game. The Titans are great at running the ball and the Steelers are made to stop the run. These two teams play each other in Week 16 in Tennessee.
Denver’s defense was supposed to be better this year but that has not been the case. Teams are able to both run and pass against them. Losing Champ Bailey to an injury did not help.
What’s wrong with Jay Cutler? He was supposed to be the next big thing at QB but he has regressed of late. No one doubts his arm strength but he needs to cut down on his interceptions.
The Arizona Cardinals will easily win the NFC West. The Rams, Seahawks, and 49ers are making it too easy for the Cardinals. The 49ers have their next shot on Monday night in Arizona to try to stay in contention in the West.
The most complete team in the NFC right now is the New York Giants.
Lame duck coaches like Mike Holmgren don’t stand a chance because the players already know he will be gone after the season and don’t fear him as much. A lot of players tune out a coach if they are either interim or lame duck coaches. You can look at Purdue’s Joe Tiller as another example.
The Ravens have surprised me with their 5-3 record. I didn’t think they had a shot this year with QB Joe Flacco behind center. RB Ray Rice has played well too in the absence of Willis McGahee due to an injury.
What happened to the Jaguars? They lost to the previously winless Bengals and now face the winless Lions on Sunday. Losing two of their starting guards for the rest of the season early in the season has hampered their offense. Free agent acquisition Jerry Porter has been a non-factor the whole season at WR.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been competitive in their last two games but they face a tough road test in San Diego on Sunday. QB Taylor Thigpen has been a true revelation. Could he be the QB of the future for the Chiefs?
I would give the Coach of the Year award to Tony Sparano of the Dolphins right now. His team has a chance to win the AFC East. The Dolphins play Seattle and Oakland at home the next two weeks before their rematch with the Patriots. Three straight home games for the Dolphins and they have a chance to go at least 2-1 or 3-0.
I would not count out the Cowboys being out of the playoffs just yet. I think they still have a run left in them when Tony Romo returns. CB Mike Jenkins has played great. Jenkins is a rookie from South Florida.
The Lions might have their best chance at winning a game when the Vikings come to town in Week 14.

Warriors Vs. Grizzlies Live In-Game Blog
Marc Gasol leads the Grizzlies with 12 points. No one can stop him but himself.
Biedrins has 8 points to lead the Warriors but he has two quick fouls.
The Warriors need to get some fouls on Gasol.
Wow, there is a Brandan Wright sighting! He is in the game for the Warriors.
The crowd is very sparse tonight at the FedEx Forum. Lots of empty seats all over.
C.J. Watson is playing well so far.
Memphis is up 34-31 with 7 minutes remaining in the second quarter.
This is one of the better games in the NBA tonight to watch so far.
For those that don't know, the Nuggets traded A.I. to the Pistons today for Billups and McDyess.
Marco Belinelli is in the game!! I can't wait to see this guy shoot the ball.
The Grizzlise are not good 3-point shooters but they have hit 4-5 so far while the Warriors are 0-6 on their 3-point attempts.
Grizzlise 37 Warriors 31
DeMarcus Nelson is 0-3 and struggling. Did you know he is the highest scoring high school player in California?
Mayo is a good passer. He made a nice assist to Hakim Warrick who was right below the basket.
Wow, Mayo just made another perfect pass to Gasol for another assist. This kid is so impressive.
Gasol just hit a nice shot over Biedrins. He has 16 points and 8 rebounds.
Grizzlies 43 Warriors 34 with 3:55 left in the quarter.
Ronny Turiaf is finally in the game at the 3:25 mark of the second quarter. Perhaps he can stop Gasol?
Gasol did a good job against Dwight Howard last Friday night using his big body to pester howard.
Grizzlies 47 Warriors 45 Timeout
Mike Conley is the starting PG for the Grizzlies but Kyle Lowry gets most of the minutse in the second half usually. Lowry is a far better defender than Conley.
It is now halftime and Memphis is up 49-45.
Al Harrington is really struggling and is 3-11 shooting. He needs to pick it up in the second half or give someone else more shots.
Corey Maggette apparently hurt his hamstring and his return is questionable.
Maggette is back in the game.
We are in the 3rd quarter now and the Grizzlies are up 72-67. The Warriors had a five point lead but now the Grizzlies are up again.
Biedrins has four fouls and is on the bench.
Grizzlies 73 Warriors 67 End of 3rd quarter. Grizzlies went on a 13-2 run to end the quarter.
As we approach the fourth quarter, look for Gay to lead the Grizzlies. I don't see a Warriors win tonight.
Mayo just made a layup to make it 79-73. It has been a very sluggish quarter. We have 8:22 left in the game.
No Warrior is having a good shooting night and this will lead to their demise. They have shot a dismal 31-78.
Harrington is 3-13. The problem with Harrington is he is a tall forward who doesn't play good defense and can't get a rebound to save his life. He remins me of myself in that aspect. He is not effective if his shot is not going.
I am waiting for Stephen Jackson to bomb away from 3-point land soon.
Grizzlies 81 Warriors 73 with six minutes left.
Jackson committed a flagrant foul on Conley. Grizzlies are up by 11 now.
Grizzlies 86 Warriors 75 with 4:51 to go
This game is over. The Grizzlies will win. The Warriors announcers insist the game is still not over but they are lying to the fans.
Warriors are now 2-18 on their three-pointers.
Gasol just hit a jumper and he now has 27 points. He just made a three-pointer which didn't count because the shot clock expired.
Warriors have only scored 9 fourth quarter points.
Belinelli is back in the game! So is rookie Anthony Randolph. 1:27 left in the game.
Belinelli shoots a 3 and makes it! Where was he during the second half? Coach Nelson needs to start playing him more often.
The game is finally officially over. Grizzlies 90 Warriors 79.
The MVP of the game is Gasol.
Warriors finish 3-20 from three-point land. Biedrins had 22 boards.
