The Five Best Starting Pitchers This Season

1. Zach Greinke, Royals Pitcher

Greinke is 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Four starts and no earned runs given up yet. Greinke is the most dominant pitcher in the majors right now but he plays for the Royals so not a lot of fans know about him or how good he is.

2. Chad Billingsley, Dodgers Pitcher

Billingsley is also 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA. He has pitched at least six innings in each of his four starts and is coming off a dominating pitching performance against the Astros last week. His next game will be Tuesday against the woeful Giants offense. Billingsley struck out 11 Giants in a game earlier this season.

3. Johan Santana, Mets Pitcher

Santana is 3-1 with a 0.70 ERA. The Mets are struggling this year but they know they have a good chance to win when Santana is on the mound.

4. Felix Hernandez, Mariners Pitcher

Hernandez is 3-0 with a 3.12 ERA and is coming off an impressive start against the Rays. He pitched seven scoreless innings in that game and struck out seven. He is fourth in the AL in strikeouts with 27.

5. Erik Bedard, Mariners Pitcher

Bedard is 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA for the Mariners, and is ranked third in strikeouts in the AL with 29. He is holding left-handed hitters to a .174 batting average.

Some other pitchers that I did not include in this list but are worthy candidates include Giants pitcher Matt Cain, and Reds pitcher Aaron Harang.

2008 Giants Ready To Begin Dismal Season

Spring training is almost over and the Giants, ready or not, will be heading up north for their final exhibition games on the weekend. This year will most likely be filled with lots of pain and agony. This roster is full of players that might not be major-league caliber and also not very likeable.

There will be no Barry Bonds to save the day this time. The most popular player they have is shortstop Omar Vizquel who is injured to start the season. Their big free agent acquisition, Aaron Rowand, is a good but not great player. According to the Giants marketing department, he is quite the "gamer" though. The highest paid player on the team is Barry Zito.

Zito may be likeable to young girls and Hollywood starlets but he does not have many fans at 24 Willie Mays Plaza. Zito was probably the most booed Giant last season. With his pompous attitude, high ERA, and rich contract, he is a big target for angry and disappointed fans after every horrific outing. When he shows up at fan functions, he shows as much passion and energy as a gay man at the Playboy Mansion.

The media can bash Bonds all they want but he was beloved by many fans. Who doesn't like to watch baseball history or long home runs? Bonds had the whole Bay Area flocking to AT&T Park every season. No one on the team can fill up seats like Bonds could.

Who cares about Kevin Frandsen or Daniel Ortmeier? Does anyone like Dave Roberts besides Red Sox Nation? Has he done anything good since stealing bases against Mariano Rivera in the ALCS a few years ago? How about Randy Winn and Ray Durham?

The veterans on this team are just playing out their careers on a losing team and collecting a paycheck. The younger guys on the team like Fred Lewis just want to be up in the big leagues and are more concerned about that than winning.

This team is going nowhere but down in 2008. The problem is they won't even be loveable losers. There will be packed houses when the Mets, Cubs, and Dodgers come to town, but half of the fans will be wearing the visiting team's hats and jerseys. If you thought last season was bad with Bonds, imagine what will happen this year.

Barry Zito is Garrrrrrrrrrbage

Barry Zito is the new Armando Benetiz to Giants fans. Giants fans are sick of him. Luckily for Zito, his last two pathetic home starts have been overshadowed by the other Barry on the team hitting home runs.. There was not even one mention of Zito's poor pitching performances the next day in the local papers. Zito should be very thankful that Bonds is on the team. Is Zito trying to be the Home Run King? I'm talking about giving up home runs not hitting them. He gave up 3 homers in his last start to the Nationals and if he keeps on doing that, he could earn the moniker of "Home Run King." As I walk around the ballpark and talk to fans, their biggest gripe is with Zito. I was sitting in the club level watching the game on the flat screen television as a concession stand cook walks by and looks up at the television. He screams out "Zito is garrrrrrrbage" to me as I laugh and nod my head in total agreement. The next inning I walk down to the lower level behind home plate as Zito gave up another homer. The fans got so angry they were spilling their beer while shaking their heads and yelling obscenities at the same time at Zito. The majority of fans do not like him but will have to deal with him for the next six years.

Any Zito apologist would try to defend him by saying he only gave up one run to the Dodgers last week and how he is coming around. Giving up one run to the Dodgers doesn't sound that great though when the Dodgers recently were held to ZERO runs in 3 consecutive games! Even the Giants can score a few runs from time to time without being shutout like that. When the Nationals came back and tied up the game last Tuesday, one fan said the only good thing about that was that Zito would not get a win since he didn't deserve it. Fans are truly disgusted by Zito's pitching all season.

Many fans are saying that Zito probably cares more about playing his guitar and learning about photography than actually trying to fix his pitching mechanics. You won't get an argument from me. When he is not shooting pictures or playing musical instruments, he is probably out looking for Marina chicks to date. This guy is truly pathetic. D Wizzle believes that the money has gotten to Zito's head and he is not as motivated as he was last year. The media refuses to state that possibility and also refuses to criticize him because Zito is such a great guy. He is a true friend of the media and always accomodating. Basically, he is the antithesis of Bonds when it comes to dealing with the press.

With his 83 mph fastball and a curveball that he cannot get command of, hitters are lining up to face Zito with pure ecstasy. They have no fear of him whatsoever. Batters can crowd the plate and not worry about a 98 mph fastball aimed at their head. Glenn Dickey, the San Francisco Examiner columnist, said that Zito is the worst free agent signing of all time and he may be right considering all the money the Giants are paying him. Billy Beane was smart in letting him walk away while the Mets GM, Omar Minaya, looks like a genius for refusing to trade OF Lastings Milledge to the A's last summer for Zito. Minaya also refused to kowtow to Scott Boras when Boras demanded a high salary for Zito.

Unfortunately for Giants fans, Brian Sabean took the bait and signed the pathetic pitcher for $126 million. The deal looks worst each time Zito is on the mound and when another 2006 free agent lefty, Ted Lilly, is getting paid $40 million and is 14-5 for the Cubs. Giants fans will continue to stay frustrated as Boras and Zito continue to laugh straight to the bank.

Barry Zito and Lou Seal at Macys

Here is footage of Barry Zito and mascot Lou Seal at Macys a few months ago signing autographs. The fans were going crazy for Zito back then. The majority were women in their 40s and 50s for the most part and they were drooling over Zito. Chicks dig the long ball but they should not dig a 83mph slowball. I meant fastball.

Analysis of Thursday MLB Action

The Mets destroyed the Brewers as Chris Capuano took the loss again. Capuano is now 5-8 after starting the season 5-0 and has not won in about 11 starts since his last victory. Ray Ratto, the San Francisco Chronicle and sometimes national columnist had him as a All Star candidate. I told Ratto that Capuano is inconsistent and he disagreed. Well, the numbers do not lie just like Shakira's hips. Capuano has not won since May 5!

The Giants won as Barry Zito pitched a solid game as I thought he would. The reason is he has a lot of friends in LA and wanted to have a good showing plus he probably wanted to stick it to Dodger fan and ex girlfriend Alyssa MIlano as well. ZIto is not as bad as his 8-11 record just as Noah Lowry is not as good as his 12-7 record. I believe Bonds will not hit any home runs until next week at home. I will be there next week until he hits it. Watch for more footage next week right here!

The Yankees lost 13-9 at home to the White Sox. Roger Clemens got booed off the field. The Yankees scored 8 runs in th 2nd inning to tie up the score at 8 but the White Sox eventually won this slugfest. The Yankees play Kansas City all weekend so they should sweep the series.

In San Diego, Jake Peavy pitched a great game as the Padres won 11-0 over Arizona. Arizona is in first place in the West and will face the Dodgers this weekend. Giants face the Padres
starting tonight as Cain faces Maddux.

In Florida, the Marlins lost again to the Rockies 4-3. I heard that there were only about 3,000 fans at the game!

Those are the hightlights of yesterday's action.

Fans disgusted with Zito and Morris is traded to Pirates

Giants fans are sick and tired of being sick and tired. You can hear the boos each time Barry Zito and Matt Morris are on the mound. Every hit and every run they give up and the boos get louder and louder. The fans start looking at each other and shake their heads. I have been a witness to this many times at At&T Park. Fans would come up to me and go on a rant about how Zito is the worst free agent pickup ever in the history of baseball and how Morris should have never been signed. An older gentleman told me that he thinks he could get a single off Zito himself and I do not doubt him. Who is afraid of fastballs clocked at 84? Batters can't wait to bat against Zito. The same goes for Morris. To win in the big leagues, you need either command of your pitches or great velocity.Unfortunately Zito has not shown much command this season and he never had great velocity. Morris has been slightly better than Zito this season but he makes costly mistakes that loses games. A few weeks ago in Chicago, he crossed up catcher Bengie Molina and Molina got hurt. Mental errors like that should not be expected of a veteran like Morris. Fans in San Francisco can somewhat rejoice now that Morris has been traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for outfielder Rajal Davis and a player to be named later.

If you thought Matt Morris's contract was outrageous, how did you feel when Zito signed his $126 million contract in the offseason? Sabean is the worst general manager possibly in baseball. Sabean could have signed Ted Lilly this offseason for considerably less money than he is paying Zito. Lilly was very interested in signing with the Giants and he would have been a great fit for the team. Lilly signed with the Cubs eventually for four years and is having a great season. Lilly's teammate Carlos Zambrano is a free agent after this year and would have been a better investment than Zito. If Zito is really worth $126 million, how much is Zambrano worth? The facts are that Zito is not worth that amount of money and I do not expect Zambrano to get as big a contract as Zito did in the offseason. This will prove once again how idiotic and ludicrous Sabean was to give Zito such a fat contract when other teams like the Mets decided to pass on Zito. With the trading of Matt Morris to the Pirates today, Giants fans have one less player to boo and can concentrate fully on booing the hell out of Zito for the next 7 years.

Barry Bonds hits #754, Giants Game Recap

D Wizzle just got back from the Giants game. The Giants won 12-10 as Bonds hit his 754th homer of his career in the first inning. Thanks to Barry Zito, the Giants got off to a 6-2 deficit but fortunately for Zito, his team saved him from a loss due to the surprising offensive power tonight. This was the most exciting game all season for Giants fans. They were also treated to a fireworks show right after the victory. Many fans in the ballpark booed Zito as he gave up run after run. The crowd was all riled up and ready to boo him again in the bottom of the 4th but Bruce Bochy saved him from any further embarrassment by having Kevin Frandsen pinch hit for him. Everywhere you go, the fans are yelling obscenities at Zito. Basically, Barry Zito is the new Armando Benetiz. He is the new whipping boy for the team but good luck to Brian Sabean if he thinks he can trade Zito like he did Benetiz. One fan asked me if anyone is afraid of a 83mph fastball. Zito is fortunate his next start is on the road. Besides Bonds homer, the Giants also got homers from Ray Durham, Bengie Molina, and Pedro Feliz. It was a great time had by the capacity crowd but those have been few and far between this season. I will have video footage and pictures from the game soon.

Worst Team in Baseball

The San Francisco Giants are the worst team in baseball. This team is pathetic and there is no hope for the near future unless you think Kevin Frandsen is the second coming of Ryne Sandberg or Freddie Lewis will be the next Ricky Henderson. What ever happened to Lance Niekro and Travis Ishikawa? Merkin Valdez anyone? Nothing is worst than a team that is not just bad but also utterly boring. This team is as exciting to watch as watching paint dry. Without Barry Bonds in the lineup, this team is a disaster. Ray Durham and Ryan Klesko batting cleanup instills fear among no pitcher. Matt Cain is 3-11 this season and the Giants bats stay quiet each time he is on the mound. What did he do to tick off all of the hitters? I suggest Cain go apologize and make amends for any transgressions or he might be looking at a 20 loss season. Name one Giant position player besides Bonds who you would pay to watch. You would have to be a sadist to want to watch Dave Roberts misjudge balls off the bat time after time in center field or seeing Ryan Klesko play first base. Losing teams like the Devil Rays and Royals have hope. The Devil Rays are one of the more exciting teams in baseball that no one knows about. B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford are a talented duo and pitcher Scott Kazmir is a ace in waiting. Royals fans see hope in Alex Gordon and Billy Butler. The Washington Nationals even have hope and everyone will rejoice when their new stadium debuts next season. What do Giants fans have to look forward to? How about six more years of Barry Zito?
